Arpita Mukherjee

Arpita Mukherjee is a NYC based director and writer who recently made her Broadway debut as the resident director of The Kite Runner. Arpita previously directed Bollywood Kitchen by Sri Rao (Geffen Playhouse), House of Joy by Madhuri Shekar (San Diego Rep), and Eh Dah: Questions for my Father by Aya Aziz (Next Door @ New York Theatre Workshop). Arpita is the Co-Book Writer of Monsoon Wedding, The Musical, which recently had its NYC premiere at St. Ann’s Warehouse.

  • Arpita has developed work at the Public Theater, WP Theater and O’Neill Theater Center, amongst others. She is a 2021 Resident Director at the Drama League, a 2018 - 2020 Women’s Project Lab Member and a 2018 Eugene O’ Neill National Directing Fellows and an alumni of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab.

    Arpita directed Running, a film written by and starring Danny Pudi and co-wrote the screenplay for the Disney+ Hotstar film Gulmohar with director Rahul Chittella. Arpita is currently developing projects for WIIP, AMC, and a Netflix feature directed by Mira Nair, with music by Pharrell Williams. Arpita is the Co-founder and Artistic Director of Hypokrit.

Shubhra Prakash

Co-Founder

She is an actor, singer, voice over artist, theatre maker and short filmmaker. She has resided in Kolkata, New Delhi, San Francisco Bay Area and now in New York City. She has most recently co-written and directed an original play The Music In My Blood. Shubhra served as a voiceover artist for Priya’s Shakti, a multi-platform project supported by Tribeca New Media fund which has garnered over 400 press and media mentions.

  • She wrote, directed and produced a play “For Our Own” at the Planet Connections Theatre Festival 2014 for which she received the Activist Award for getting a great deal of involvement from the South Asian Marrow Association of Recruiters. She served as festival director of the company’s South Asian International Performing Arts Festival in its inaugural year 2015. As an actor she just completed the workshop reading of Monsoon Wedding the Musical as the lead, Aditi Verma. She has acted in Hypokrit Theatre Company’s Romeo & Juliet as Mercutio, in The Tempest Ladies’ Taming of the Shrew. She also serves as co-founder of Random Fox Productions, her short Funny Faces was the Top 10 picks of Asian American Lab’s 72 hour shootout. She has attended producing workshop at Cannes International Film Festival 2015. Her short film, Three Dates – a short film, which she wrote, directed and produced, was screened at New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) ’13.  (she/her/hers)

Neal Gupta

Neal Gupta is a New York City based director, writer, actor & producer who seeks to conjure the magic that people possess into imaginative stories with extraordinary craft. He is proud to vacillate between each role, across mediums. Neal will make his Broadway debut as Associate Director of Prayer for the French Republic, opening January 2024. He recently directed the pilot of an episodic comedy he co-created and is in development for several series. Neal is inspired by the brilliant artists he has had the opportunity to collaborate with such as Arpita Mukherjee, Tim Carroll, David Cromer, Bebe Neuwirth, Reese Witherspoon, Lucy Liu, Marisa Tomei & Liz Garbus.

  • Neal has worked as Associate Director at Manhattan Theatre Club, Geffen Playhouse, The Public, Ars Nova & The BRIC and has taught at Rutgers, NYU-Tisch, & ArtsBridge. Neal trained at Rutgers University (Mason Gross), Shakespeare’s Globe, & Interlochen Arts Academy.

 

Kyle Rosenberg

Kyle Rosenberg is a technical director, stage manager, lighting designer, and photographer based in New York City. He currently serves at the Studio Administrator at the Actors Studio. He has worked as the technical director on all of Hypokrit Live Arts, which have been featured in a variety of press outlets including New York Times, Theatermania, Stage Buddy, and Playbill. He is also currently the Board Treasurer at The American Friends of  the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba and Treasurer & Secretary for Sunno Foundation.

Apoorva Charan

Apoorva Charan is an LA based producer who was born in Hyderabad, India and raised in Northern California. Charan started her career at FremantleMedia Singapore where she worked on major series including Asia's Got Talent, X Factor Indonesia and Thailand’s Got Talent as a digital producer.  Passionate about narrative storytelling, Charan pursued her MFA in Film at Columbia University.

Charan has produced over twenty short films including LONELY BLUE NIGHT starring Diana Lin (THE FAREWELL) which won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at AFI

  • Charan has produced over twenty short films including LONELY BLUE NIGHT starring Diana Lin (THE FAREWELL) which won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at AFI Fest 2020, was an official selection at the Atlanta FF, was a finalist for the HBO APA Visionaries award, and is available to stream on HBO Max,  空间 DISTANCE (which she co-wrote and produced) which premiered at the 29th Singapore International Film Festival 2018 and won Film Pipeline's Best Film Award in 2020, and INTERIORS which premiered at the TIFF in September 2018 and was an official selection for Clermont-Ferrand 2019.

    Charan was a 2019 Project Involve creative producing fellow, a 2020 Film Independent Creative Producing Lab fellow, a 2021 Women in Film Emerging Producers fellow, and has worked in development at Big Beach, Walt Disney Studios' live action department and at Blue Harp. 

    Focused on diverse and innovative storytelling, Charan aims to write & produce refreshing and unique narratives for a global audience.

Annie Middleton

Producing Advisor

Annie Middleton is producing advisor for Hypokrit Live Arts. Middleton was Managing Director of Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and HeartBeats Opera. She is a graduate of Yale School of Drama’s Theater Management MFA program. At Yale, Middleton served as Managing Director of Yale Cabaret, Company Manager for Yale Repertory Theatre, General Manager for the Dwight/Edgewood Project, and Management Fellow at Roundabout Theatre Company in NYC. In addition to her consultancy work with Hypokrit Live Arts, Middleton serves as a Creative Producer on several projects in NYC.
